Research & Development

Our research combines applied science and engineering practice to develop, verify and document expanding pin technology under realistic operating conditions.

Industrial experience meets applied research

Our expanding pin solutions are built on more than practical experience. Through systematic research, testing and continuous development, we verify performance, improve design methods and document the effects of bondura® technology under realistic load and operating conditions.

This work supports both new product development and the continuous improvement of existing solutions, contributing to increased safety margins and more predictable performance over time. It also enables us to bring documented knowledge and verified design principles directly into early-phase engineering projects alongside our customers.

Our research and development are carried out in close collaboration with academic institutions, industrial partners and customers, and forms an important foundation for our intellectual property, certifications and long-term technology leadership.

Design and optimisation

From standardised solutions to fully customised expanding pins, we handle the complete design process. All designs are presented for customer approval before production begins, ensuring the final solution meets both technical requirements and practical constraints.

PhD study at UiS

In 2023, a PhD study at the University of Stavanger documented the effects and consequences of expanding pin technology across various types of heavy machinery.

The study resulted in nine published papers covering topics such as load distribution, fretting fatigue, pre-tension loss, bearing behaviour and anti-loosening bolt design — carried out in collaboration with industrial partners and supported by The Research Council of Norway.

The research was conducted by Øyvind Karlsen, and provides an independent, academically verified foundation for the performance claims behind bondura® technology.
